Our Calling...

This calling to bring care to people didn't begin with a business plan. It grew from caring for family members with health challenges as an expression of our love and faith—and it has roots in a family legacy of bringing help to people on wheels.

Our History & Heritage...

​

In the 1970s, our founders' father, a U.S. Air Force veteran who served during the Korean War era, founded Braggs Ambulance, the first Black-owned ambulance service in San Diego, California. He built his company around serving people when they needed help most. Although he passed in 2007, we're not only honored to carry our father's legacy of service forward—on new wheels—but we're also honored to care for his widow, our beautiful mother (pictured below).​

The vision for H.A.P.P.I.N.E.S.S. On Wheels® and the Free Shower Project came fully to life in 2022, shaped by our founders' experience caring for their disabled mother since 2013. During their caregiving journey, they encountered several unprofessional and poorly trained individuals who represented themselves as "caregivers."

Shockingly, none of the seven caregiving agencies our founders approached for assistance required the caregivers they hired to maintain a valid state-issued Fingerprint Clearance Card. After discussing vetting practices with each company, our founders did not have the confidence they needed that household safety, quality training, and supervision would be adequately prioritized.

Each of the caregiving companies required a minimum of 3–4 hours of scheduled services—even when that much time wasn't needed. In fact, at different caregiving stages, our founders only needed custom services to assist with personal care needs such as a bath/shower because they were managing to cover all of the other duties and tasks among themselves. 

During the COVID pandemic—a particularly vulnerable time for many families desperate for assistance—one caregiver had the audacity to lie and misrepresent herself as a Registered Nurse (RN) to our founders. The caregiving agency claimed that it had vetted her, but our founders later learned that she was not thoroughly vetted. An Assistant Director with the Arizona State Board of Nursing later informed our founders that the caregiving agency had not verified the caregiver's reported RN credential, and she is now listed among the Arizona State Board of Nursing's "Imposters."

The long list of bad experiences from caregiving agencies and caregiving apps compelled our founders to research and develop mobile caregiving options that are background-transparent, flexible, non-intrusive, and reliable for families to schedule quality assistance that doesn't compromise safety. Those services involve using Nurse Assistants who are state-licensed/certified, undergo extensive background checks, and maintain unexpired state-issued Fingerprint Clearance Cards and CPR/AED/First Aid cards. We've proudly raised the bar for caregiving services!

Our founders' diligent research revealed many additional challenges facing families, such as widespread poor treatment and abuse of many vulnerable people, the significant risk of bathroom injuries and falls (particularly among the elderly), the limited financial resources of many individuals to address their hygiene needs, the poor vetting practices of caregiving agencies and caregiving apps, and the isolation and loneliness experienced by many Americans who need quality care, which can adversely affect their overall well-being. Our services are designed to address several of these challenges.

There are millions of people who make up the vulnerable population of military veterans, the elderly, and others with health issues and/or mobility challenges. Sadly, far too many cases of abuse, neglect, and exploitation are reported each year, while many others may go unreported. We understand what caregivers and those with mobility challenges are going through, and we're here to disrupt the inadequate vetting, inflexible service models, insufficient accountability, and impersonal approaches to caregiving that plague today's caregiving culture.

H.A.P.P.I.N.E.S.S. On Wheels is...

​

...a Christian company—we've thoroughly studied various forms of caregiving found throughout the Bible, and we unashamedly operate in alignment with Biblical principles such as treating others how we would like to be treated ourselves. Even while suffering, Jesus made provision for His mother's care and entrusted her to someone He loved and trusted (John 19:25–27). Jesus did this as He hung on a cross bearing the weight of everyone's sins. This selfless act is one of the reasons providing care to those in need—and earning the trust of the people we serve and their families—is so important to us.

...a green company—our services are powered by an electric truck and solar panels instead of using a noisy gas-powered generator. This helps reduce our environmental footprint and helps make our visits to your neighborhood as quiet as possible.

...a company made up of Caregiving Superheroes®—Caregiving Superheroes® isn't merely what we call our team—it represents the standard of service we expect from them. Our Caregiving Superheroes® are expected to protect dignity, support safe independence, and approach personal care with attentiveness, gentleness, compassion, dependability, integrity, and respect. We warmly acknowledge, serve, and welcome the diverse backgrounds and cultures of the people and families we encounter. The title means something to us, and we expect those who carry it to live up to it.
